Ongoing Counsel for WV Businesses
As an experienced WV business lawyer, Kelly is a legal partner who provides trusted, relationship-based ongoing counsel to help businesses improve operations, manage risk, meet goals, and position for growth.
Experienced WV Business Counsel
Early in her legal career, Kelly worked at a large commercial law firm in Charleston, WV, before changing paths and serving as a family lawyer, then as a family law judge in the Mountain State.
After starting a family, Kelly’s desire to return to her hometown of Petersburg, WV, led her to take on the role of in-house counsel at Allegheny Wood Products (AWP), a producer and supplier of lumber and hardwood products with multiple locations across WV and an international supply chain.
Over 20 years as in-house counsel, Kelly managed a variety of challenging legal matters, often negotiating transactions and agreements with large corporate entities with full legal departments and extensive resources. These matters included asset and stock purchase agreements, mergers, and ensuring due diligence from the buyer and seller perspectives. Kelly also handled substantial timber contracts, real estate agreements, land management, maritime and international legal issues, safety, employment, shipping, and global market expansion.
Managing the legal concerns of AWP also involved ensuring compliance with regulations at the local, national, and international levels. Kelly’s experience in compliance law includes managing regulatory matters with government agencies like the US Department of Labor (USDOL), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), among others.
Handling the legal affairs of a large business also required skill and knowledge in business and corporate litigation, and Kelly has litigated issues related to negligence, Mandolidis (deliberate intent) actions, transportation, and trucking.
Kelly’s depth of experience as a WV business lawyer makes her an asset to her clients throughout the life of their businesses, from formation and structuring to providing ongoing counsel and business succession planning, and most everything in between. If a legal business matter falls outside the scope of Kelly’s practice, she has an extensive network of colleagues to whom she can refer cases to ensure you receive the trusted counsel and representation you need.
